Tiberio Garza, a bilingual education doctoral student, earned a College of Education and Human Development Strategic Fellowship. The one-year, $20,000 fellowship allows graduate students to focus on research activity and dissemination. The college awards only eight such fellowships annually.

He was nominated for the fellowship by Dr. Sandra Acosta. His graduate committee includes Drs. Rafael Lara-Alecio, Bruce Thompson, Beverly J. Irby, Fuhui Tong, Sandra Acosta, and Frederic I. Parke.

His research will focus on PK-12 English language learners in high-stakes testing, psychometric characteristics of the methodological quality questionnaire, assessing educational websites, systematic review of the Simple View of Reading Theory, and observational protocols.
