Project Preparing Academic Leaders

Project Preparing Academic Leaders (PAL) is a five-year, $2.57 million training and research project funded through the National Professional Development (NPD) Program.

The project implements multiple innovative approaches for professional development of future school leaders. These opportunities include building instructional capacity. PAL will target 120 Texas-certified, in-service teacher leaders who serve on high-needs campuses with large numbers of English Learners (ELs), and desire to improve instruction in order to boost EL academic achievement.

Participants will have the opportunity to earn their Texas bilingual or ESL teacher certification and a master’s degree in Educational Administration. The goal is to train bilingual/ESL teacher leaders to lead efforts in increasing instructional capacity among other teachers on such campuses, thus multiplying the effects beyond the 120 participants.

Project PAL will support three cohorts (one each academic year):

  • 2018-19
  • 2019-20
  • 2020-21

Each cohort will consist of approximately 40 participants.
