On April 14, 2016, Drs. Rafael Lara-Alecio (Principal Investigator), Beverly Irby (Co-principal Investigator), Fuhui Tong (Co-principal Investigator), and Cindy Guerrero (Project Coordinator) of Project English Language and Literacy Acquisition-Validation (ELLA-V) presented their research findings. Sponsored by the Center for Research & Development in Dual Language & Literacy Acquisition (CRDLLA) and the Education Leadership Research Center (ELRC), the presentation highlighted findings from grade 2.

ELLA-V is a randomized trial control study that validates previous research from Project English Language and Literacy Acquisition (ELLA). Between 2003-2008, ELLA researchers investigated the efficacy of structured English immersion and transitional bilingual models, and English literacy interventions for Spanish-speaking kindergarten students in a large urban district in Texas.

ELLA-V scales up this research to validate the individual interventions of ELLA and determine the degree of impact on Spanish-speaking students in grades K-3. This project is estimated to impact 75 elementary schools, 600 teachers, and 15,000 students in Texas.
